Assistant Manager I (2008-P-88)
(Southern Tagalog - Los Baños, Laguna)
Responsibilities:
Basic purpose : The successful candidate will take project management lead at Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) level for biofortification breeding project at PBGB. He/She will perform the following specific functions: project administration, coordination, monitoring, and communication as well as assisting with information searches and reporting.
Major responsibilities:
1. Project Administration and Coordination
? Provide overall assistance in managing all activities of the biofortification project, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring to ensure timely execution and completion of project activities, and generation of all program outputs.
? Prepare and consolidate the annual project budget in close consultations with the Project Leader (PL).
? Provide strategic and technical inputs in developing and packaging project proposals.
? Organize and/or participate project meetings/reviews/seminars, including activity dialogues with NARES and other partners in consultation with the PL, PIs/Conveners concerned.
? Coordinate and prepare reports related to the project and other activities. Prepare materials for presentations.
2. Research
? Conduct literature searches for materials required for project proposals, reporting, and publication.
3. Monitoring
? Together with the PL, monitor and periodically review project implementation for timely execution and the performance of the biofortification breeding team.
? Review research progress and movement of resources in all project outputs by working closely with the PL, Program 4 Associate Program Manager, and Program 4 Leader.
4. Training
? Train the project staff and provide relevant advice on issues related to administrative components and to the relations to different internal and external stakeholders (NARES, among others) for smooth implementation of project activities.
5. Communications
? Write up project related information for IRRI-internal publications, for peer reviewed journals, websites, and announcements
6. Perform other tasks related to project planning and management.
Requirements:
Minimum education : Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or relevant business/admin area
Experience required : 5 years in research/project management
Skills and abilities : Excellent skills in business and administration tools, strategic planning and time management; basic understanding in rice plant breeding/genetics; demonstrated ability in interpersonal relations involving all staff levels; excellent knowledge of Institute policies and operating procedures; substantial experience in event planning/ management; strong writing skills (written and oral); advanced knowledge of word processing software and spreadsheets (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
